Prius Replacement Battery & Parts
Weighing in at approximately 118 lb, the 38 module metal hydride (NiMH) Prius power unit (battery) provides 273.6 volts of power for the vehicle. Normally only charged to about 50% on full charge to help preserve the life of the battery, this also includes a backup supply for the regenerative braking system.
Independent tests conducted in February 2011 on a 2002 Prius with over 200,000 miles on the clock against a 2001 Prius with only 2,000 miles that was first tested in 2001 showed negligible difference in quality or performance. The 2001 Prius had 40.6 miles per gallon compared to 40.4 MPG on the 2002 model. And the battery for the 2012 Toyota Prius is apparently very impressive, being about half the weight of previous batteries, and able to store approximately 15 percent more energy (about a 15 mile all electric driving range).
What is apparent across all models is the cost difference should you ever need to replace your battery. Buying a new Toyota factory unit costs anywhere from $2000.00 to $4000.00, buying a good aftermarket or used unit like what can be found on World Of Prius from approximately $600.00 to $2000.00, and only $79.99 (plus parts etc.) if you follow these instructions and rebuild the battery pack yourself.
One thing for sure is that you will find a replacement battery or any parts you may need for your model of Prius right here.
